CoD V.1.4.7- The Checklist - part 2...
Well, it's been almost a week since I posted - I thought I should do something about that...
My 'To-do' checklist, I am happy to report, progresses beautifully. I've already written about the items I took care of a couple of weeks ago, so let me update you on what has happened since:
I have been informed that I have a week-long orientation seminar between the 26th of October and the 1st of November. In preparation for this seminar, I had to read two books- Betty Barnett's 'Friend Raising', and John Piper's 'Let the Nations be Glad!'. I finished reading them last weekend and greatly encourage anyone who is considering missions to read Barnett's book. Piper's books I recommend in their entirety to any literate Christian with a working brain.
Both books were very powerful, very convicting, very instructional. It's strange that the more I read, the more I seem to realize that I really know very little of all there is to know. Now, this may come as somewhat of a shock to my little sister Sue, who I've confidently assured over the last 10 years that I know everything, but it's true! How inconceivably awesome is a God who actually does know everything... it boggles the mind.
Next, I worked on and finalized my very first prayer letter. Aptly named, it's basically a formal request for prayer for me now and for the ministry that lies ahead of me (If you're reading this, chances are you'll get one!). Lots of back-and-forth work with my AIM regional co-ordinator (Chuck Pinkerton) here, who insited that I remove anything even remotely suggestive of the fact that if you do not commit to pray for me, it's because you don't like me and I smell. Ah well, we finally agreed upon a fairly formal letter, and even as we speak it is in the process of going forth- covering the many leagues separating you and I (that's if I love you, if I don't, or if you live close by, then I'll hand deliver it).
I also went over to the police station and requested, for better or worse, a check of my police record (thankfully my run-ins with the law are limited to this one ticket I got for failing to change the license plate sticker on my car- seriously, who gives tickets for that??) (also this one time, in Lego-land or something, when I was 10, I deliberately collected a handful of pebbles and stacked them on the train tracks of this miniature train) (However, these kids behind me saw me and ratted me out, and 10 minutes later a really tall guy - people seemed a lot taller in those days - came and got me and made me remove the pebbles) (The guilt has haunted me ever since)(really!).
And lastly, just yesterday in fact, I visited my doctor and got myself checked up. Very sobering experience- I realized that not only was I a quarter of an inch shorter than I thought I was (I may be shrinking due to old age), but my vision is also not as sharp as I thought it was (no 20/20 for me- although at least I dont yet require glasses) (which is a bit of a shame, cos I always wanted to have little round-framed glasses, so then I could shave my head, grow a moustache, and look like Gandhi). (Maybe I'll just get glasses with no prescription and do that anyways...). Other than that though, I was in apparently fairly good health- my doctor even said I had the constitution of a 25 year old! And she went out of her way to tell me that my blood pressure was especially good. I'm not sure if that means I have lots of blood, and so a higher pressure, or too little blood and thus lower pressure. I guess I've always had as much blood as I have now- I haven't bled profusely anytime recently, so maybe it's that my blood is at just the right viscosity... who knows these things? (The God who knows all things!)(And doctors).
I also started on the first of several innoculations (my arm's still sore! but I'm now still immune to tetanus, diphteria, and something else), had some blood taken for tests (that may account for the blood pressure), and had a chest X-ray done- I guess to make sure I don't have the consumption, or tuberculosis, or perhaps the bubonic plague- or anything else that might clog my chest. I find out in two weeks or so...
Next up on the list is my Last Will and Testament. I have absolutely no idea how to go about this, so if any lawyers reading this have any suggestions, please let me know! I'd be much obliged.
And that's all for now!
P.S.- I don't really have much of value, I'm likely giving my car away before I go, but if there's anything I own that you would like in the event of my death, haha, please let me know and I'll include you in my Will. How cool will that be? Maybe I'll even add in a clause stating that you have to spend a night in a haunted house! Just let me know- other items I have that people might be interested in include a Trek 1500 road bike (which I love!), many books (Dave's actually got dibs on some of those, but there'll be plenty left), an X-box and some games (lots of soccer games!), some DVDs (I actually have 0ver 150, but my sister has dibs on those, so you'll have to choose from the leftovers), and a desktop which isn't cutting edge, but does the job (P4, 2.6MHz, 512Mb, 80Gb). Again, lol, just let me know!

Good to hear things are moving along! Hmm. I would like your Piper books if you die before me... :):) Can we put anything in our wills? Interesting. Maybe I should do one and say that everyone must climb a tree on the day of my birthday or something. Jokes, of course. Luego...
Haha, Ryan, we can put any conditions on our wills, like that you won't get what I'm leaving you unless you do such and such, but I dont think we can just put anything. perhaps you could say that no one gets anything until everyone climbs a tree- or we could have a reading of your will while on top of trees- that would be cool...
You may most definitely have my Piper books in case of my death, but I'm afraid I might take them with me, so I'll have to ship them back to you.
And Melissa, you may definitely have a lock of my very, very luscious hair, and I'll even die it green for you! But if I die my whole head green, with my brown body, I'd look like a tree- the birds of the air might come and perch on my nose.(and they would poop all over my shirt!).
So I might refrain from that for now... but then again, maybe I'll do it just for the camouflage factor- I'll be able to run into a forest and disappear! Ooh, that'd be cool...
oh dear, I mispelled dye, must've had something on the mind! hahah!
