CoD V.1.7.2- Interesting Times.

Wow, it's been two months since I last wrote anything, and to be sure, that is ridiculous!
It would seem that this has become kind of a pattern- a flurry of posts followed by a long period of silence. I'm not quite sure why this is, but on the plus side - if the pattern holds - you can look forward to lots to read over the next few weeks! :)

So in 16 days I leave for Africa, and things are crazy indeed. I'm currently in the middle of packing up all my earthly possessions- a few to take with me, and the rest either to give away or to put into storage, and it's strange! My sister's also home till Wednesday, and this will be the last time I see her in at least two years, probably longer... that's strange too! Lately, I've been thinking about the thing that intimidates me most about life in the bush of Africa- doing my own laundry by hand - that is also strange! So it seems I've been going through a bit of a strange patch...

On the other hand, the last couple of months have been good! I had my commissioning service - see attached pictures: You may be asking yourself- 'Who is that ruggedly handsome dude in the middle?" Well, that's me. I'm flanked by Rev. Bill Wright, who's on the Pastoral Team at my church and served as a missionary in Nigeria for a couple of decades, and Chuck Pinkerton, Ontario Mobilizer for AIM; and surrounded by my parents and a great cloud of witnesses- my church's elders and pastoral team.

There's the same scene from further out.

I also had the opportunity of helping out at the AIM office in Toronto, which was great. I was working with Sam Thomas, the personnel director for Canada, prepping for and actually helping run several short-term orientations. A great time all-round and a great opportunity to learn the workings of the mission home-office.
I've found that in my experience, of all the possible demographics I've met/worked with/spent time with; the coolest, gentlest, nicest, most genuine, sincere and generally the easiest people to get along with are retired missionaries. It seems God's really worked on their character.

Well, so that's how things are at the moment. Once again though, I'd greatly appreciate your prayer - the closer I come to departure date the more I realize how little I have to offer, how weak and frail I am, what a huge thing I've gotten myself into, and how inadequate I am to this task; but the God who called me is not a frivolous God, and this knowledge is wonderful - it causes me to lean and rely on Him more and more for everything.

Soli Gloria Deo!

God will supply us all with the strength, aptitude, ability, and necessary resources that we need to accomplish His task. Seek Him in prayer and devote yourself daily to His Word. A quote that I love is "God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called." I am praying for you and would ask for you to pray for me as well.
God Bless,
Jeremy Hill

I'm with you... I'm just about ready to leave and inadequate for the task is a good summation of my feelings. But then God never chose us for what we bring to the table... broken pots.

Thanks guys, it's true, and it's always comforting to remember. We stand by grace, and we can accomplish nothing without Him.
