CoD V.1.6.3- How Bizarre!
So possibly one of the strangest things that's happened to me in the last year happened to me yesterday evening. It was around 4:30, and I was at the office trying to nap (If you're my boss and you're reading this, I'm JOKING of course... wink, wink); when suddenly my cell phone rings.
On the line was a girl named Abigail, from a 'Club Par Excellence' (couldn't find a website- hmm...), who tells me that as a result of a ballot I filled out at a restaurant a while ago, I have won one of five completely free trips.
So my first reaction is to laugh cynically and disdainfully at this girl who thinks she can take me in so easily with her nefarious con-tactics right? Well, she then goes on to not only tell me my address (she obviously had my cell number), but also my age, and my spouse's name- Esmeralda Jade. Now, I'm thinking my address can't be that difficult to hack, I guess she could've gotten my number from somewhere, and you might even find my age online somewhere (like this blog!), but Esmeralda Jade??? I'm certainly not married, and I've never heard of that name. And then it hits me that emeralds and jade are two green precious stones, and that I had been talking to a friend about the 'Hunchback of Notre Dame' a little while ago, and that this is the kind of joke I would have made in a ballot I filled out randomly.
So thinking that my humour would be a bit tougher to duplicate than my personal information, I figured that maybe I did fill out this random ballot, but that didn't mean that this wasn't a con! So I let her continue...
According to her, I'm one of 8 people who've been randomly drawn from the ballots to win one of 5 free trips from this company- Club Par Excellence. The trips include:
1. A week-long getaway for 2, which includes airfare, accomodation and meals, at a Caribbean resort.
2. 5 days for 2 in a resort in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, or Jamaica.
3. 3 days + 2 nights hotel accomodation for 2 adults and 2 kids at one of over 50 locations around Canada and the US.
4. 2 Round-trip airline tickets plus 2 nights in Las Vegas; or
5. A Super sports vacation, which would include 2 event tickets + round trip airfare; or 4 event tickets + hotel accomodation + travel voucher for any NFL, NBA, MLB or NHL event.
All I had to do was to show up on Saturday to the drawing that would determine which one of these I'd won, which would take less than an hour.
Now, this still smells rather fishy, and my stoic cynicism and natural suspicion tell me this has to be either a con, or a hoax, or it must have some huge catch somewhere, but I guess it can't hurt me (too much) to go over on Saturday (for less than an hour) and see what this is about (this is by the airport- 3350 American Drive- if I go missing you know where I went!). How bizarre!
